A close up of the back of a very colorful macaw. Taken in 2013 at Butterfly World in Coconut Creek, Florida. This image won first prize in the "Most Colorful" FAA contest on 10/25/2019. And then it won first prize in the "V is for Vibrant Color" FAA contest on 2/19/2023.

I've been dabbling in photography since the late 70's, starting with an Instamatic and going through several film SLRs until I got my first digital, an early Nikon Coolpix. I've had a succession of both DSLR and Point-and-Shoot cameras. I've come to the conclusion that the camera does not make the photographer. A good photographer can take excellent pictures with any camera. I enhance some of my photographs digitally with Photoshop, and a suite of Topaz plugins. For simple editing sometimes I use Gimp.
